COP 27 to host a first-ever Mediterranean Pavilion

Throughout the two weeks of the COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, the first Mediterranean Pavilion will host numerous activities and gather key actors of the region. On November 9, Professor Riccaboni, Co-chair of SDSN Europe and Chair of PRIMA, will coordinate the session “Sustainable agrifood systems as a lever for climate neutrality and food security: the role of partnership and cooperation in research and innovation”

Official Launch: SDSN Global Climate Hub

As a pre-COP27 event, SDSN Global Climate Hub was launched on the 6th of July, on the occasion of a Workshop on Ancient Wisdom for Modern Challenges that took place at the Academy of Athens. Recognizing the need for leaders worldwide to take immediate, decisive action to reduce the causes of climate change, the SDSN Global Climate Hub has made its mission to provide science-based recommendations for combating the climate crisis and preventing further deterioration.

Connecting the Sustainable Development Goals: The WEF Nexus ― Understanding the Role of the WEF Nexus in the 2030 Agenda

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is the most ambitious international effort to integrate the three dimensions of sustainability into a universal vision for the future, but the interconnectedness of its 17 SDGs requires national and local governments to overcome siloization and consider existing synergies and trade-offs. This book, edited by Laura Cavalli, Manager of SDSN Italy, and Sergio Vergalli, and including texts by Angelo Riccaboni and Phoebe Koundouri, provides a state-of-the-art, holistic overview of the employment of a Water-Energy-Food (WEF) Nexus approach to implement the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, with a geographical focus on applications in different African regions.

The Siena School Closes its 4th Edition with Success

In June 2022, the Siena International School on Sustainable Development held the final phase of its educational path with a week of campus-based lectures, meetings, workshops, on-site visits and events in Siena, Italy. During the final on-campus phase in Siena (from 13 to 18 June), 30 selected international students from 13 countries had the opportunity to attend the lectures in person.

New MoU signed between the SDSN and the European Parliament’s SDG Alliance to strengthen the implementation of the SDGs in the EU and globally

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the informal grouping of Members of the European Parliament (“MEPs”) known as the SDG Alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join their efforts in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the EU, its Member States and neighboring countries as well as the wider international community.

Day 5 Lectures of the Final Phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development 2022

Peter Schmidt (European Economic Social Committee) and Stefano Gatti (MAECI) held lectures on the fifth day of the final phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development about “Fostering sustainability in the EU: the role of civil society” and “The role of international cooperation in food security”. They highlighted the importance of international cooperation for food security and fostering sustainability.

Jeffrey Sachs (President of UN SDSN, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University), Enrico Botta (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and Loukia Tzekaki (Procter & Gamble) held lectures on the fourth day of the final phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development about the activities to be undertaken in the public and private sectors, as well as the market, to combat climate change and improve quality of life.
