In preparation of the 4th edition of the Europe Sustainable Development Report, SDSN and the EESC organized a workshop to discuss the new EU priorities to achieve the SDGs in a context of multiple crises.

Zerefos, co-founder of SDSN Global Climate Hub.

As a pre-COP27 event, SDSN Global Climate Hub was launched on the 6th of July, on the occasion of a Workshop on Ancient Wisdom for Modern Challenges that took place at the Academy of Athens. Recognizing the need for leaders worldwide to take immediate, decisive action to reduce the causes of climate change, the SDSN Global Climate Hub has made its mission to provide science-based recommendations for combating the climate crisis and preventing further deterioration.
The Final Phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development 2022: Interview with Professor Jeffrey Sachs
During the on-campus phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development 2022, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network and Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, gave an interview and spoke about measures to support and accelerate the decarbonization process.
In June 2022, the Siena International School on Sustainable Development held the final phase of its educational path with a week of campus-based lectures, meetings, workshops, on-site visits and events in Siena, Italy. During the final on-campus phase in Siena (from 13 to 18 June), 30 selected international students from 13 countries had the opportunity to attend the lectures in person.
New MoU signed between the SDSN and the European Parliament’s SDG Alliance to strengthen the implementation of the SDGs in the EU and globally
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the informal grouping of Members of the European Parliament (“MEPs”) known as the SDG Alliance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to join their efforts in promoting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the EU, its Member States and neighboring countries as well as the wider international community.
Peter Schmidt (European Economic Social Committee) and Stefano Gatti (MAECI) held lectures on the fifth day of the final phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development about “Fostering sustainability in the EU: the role of civil society” and “The role of international cooperation in food security”. They highlighted the importance of international cooperation for food security and fostering sustainability.
Jeffrey Sachs (President of UN SDSN, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University), Enrico Botta (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) and Loukia Tzekaki (Procter & Gamble) held lectures on the fourth day of the final phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development about the activities to be undertaken in the public and private sectors, as well as the market, to combat climate change and improve quality of life.
Granmenos Mastrojeni (Union for Mediterranean) and Simone Borghesi (European University Institute) held lectures on the 2nd day of the final phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development about “The Mediterranean Climate Hotspot: geopolitical, social, and economic challenges” and “Policy solutions for mitigation: the role of carbon markets”.
Opening Lecture of the Final Phase of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development 2022
On June 13, the opening lecture of the Phase 3 of the Siena International School on Sustainable Development was held at Santa Chiara Lab – University of Siena. Enrico Giovannini, Minister of Infrastructures and Sustainable Mobility, highlighted in the lecture the importance of finding solutions through interdisciplinary studies and social and political innovation for a sustainable path.
