SDSN & SDG Index cited in three major recent studies by European Commission and others

The United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network and its work on the SDG Index has most recently been cited in three major studies produced by the European Commission other. The SDG Index, published annually in collaboration with the Bertelsmann Foundation, tracks the performance of all 193 UN Member States on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

1. Sustainable Development Goals and the Environment in Europe – European Environment Agency (EEA)
Published on November 12, 2020, Sustainable Development Goals and the Environment in Europe, is a cross country analysis on SDG achievement in Europe that makes use of the SDSN’s Sustainable Development Report 2019. The report stresses the importance of a rigorous qualitative and quantitative process to assess progress on the SDGs. It makes use of the results from the Sustainable Development Report, highlighting that “European countries lead the way on global SDG action.”

2. Delivering on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals – European Commission
On November 18, 2020, the European Commission released a working document titled Delivering on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: A comprehensive approach. In the document, the commission illustrates its commitment to sustainable development and the SDGs by emphasizing its relevant action policies. It also affirms its commitment to monitoring progress on the SDGs at Member State and European Union levels. The document explicitly highlights the 2019 Europe Sustainable Development Report, published by SDSN in collaboration with IEEP, and mentions its “substantial analysis on sustainability policy across the EU.”

3. A Sustainable Recovery for the EU – European Commission’s Joint Research Center
The report A sustainable recovery for the EU: A text mining approach to map the EU Recovery Plan to the Sustainable Development Goals, published by the European Commission’s Joint Research Center, analyzed the references and interlinkages between the EU Recovery Plan and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Several works published by SDSN, including the analysis of the short-term impacts of COVID-19 on the Sustainable Development Goals that were detailed in the latest Sustainable Development Report 2020, are referenced in the document.
